What is the CCEG?

The Church of Christ E-mail Group was conceived in the fall of 1996, and officially born in January 1997 with about a dozen charter members. We were 100 members strong by June 1998 and 200 by December 1999. As we approach 300 CCEG participants, representing well over 600 Church of Christ members and their families, let us be thankful to the Almighty God for the blessings our new "neighborhood" has provided ... and each CCEG participant helps make it so!

Not Protestant, not Catholic, not Mormon! The Church of Christ is the church Jesus established during His sojourn here on earth in the area you know as the "holy land" in and around Jerusalem. Within just a few years after He ascended to Heaven, men whose motives were less than righteous, began to take leadership roles in the churches scattered throughout the land. Eventually God reached the limit of His tolerance of the corrupt men and their false doctrines such that, by late in the 6th century A.D., God sent his church into the "wilderness," where it lay dormant for 1,260 years, according to prophecy.

A Brief History of the Church of Christ describes the restoration of the church from its state of dormancy. At this period of time, the early nineteenth century, a divine record and added testimony of Jesus Christ was brought forth, called the Book of Mormon. This book, about the struggles and triumphs of the very early inhabitants of the American continent, is named after a great man of God and leader named Mormon, who lived during the latter part of the narrative of the book he helped to compile in his lifetime.

A Book of Mormon Companion is a book addressing many tangible evidences that have come to light long after the Book of Mormon was first published, thus witnessing to its validity as a divine record. The church was restored with the same structure of priesthood and doctrine as established by Christ, including the authority to function with all the gifts and ordinances as before.

The reason the Church of Christ is not "Protestant", is that it pre-dates the entire Catholic movement and the churches that grew out of it as a result of "protests" against Catholic doctrine. In 1820 A.D., an uneducated young man named Joseph Smith, age 15, sought the Lord in faith, asking which of the many existing Protestant churches he should join. Because of his great faith, he was visited by the Lord and told to "join none of them". Thus, the restoration of the original Church of Christ was begun. The Lord used Joseph and a handful of other good men to restore and rebuild the church.

“And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people ....”
